Eight runners place at season-opening Redlands Invitational
REDLANDS, Calif. - A combined eight Chapman University men's and women's cross country runners placed on Saturday at the Redlands Cross Country Invitational in the team's season-opening meet. Biola University, the top-ranked NAIA women's team in the country won the team event convincingly with eight of the top-10 finishers while Cal Baptist University won the men's meet.
For Chapman, eight runners placed at Redlands highlighted by
freshman Brian
Shea who finished in 35th place in his
first career meet. Shea completed the race in 21:50.90, two minutes
off of the pace set by Ryan Richert of Biola who finished with a
time of 19:11.70. Also finishing in the top-50 for the Panthers
were Daniel Smithers (22:11.00), Angel
Flores (22:41.20), Kevin
Tatlock (23:54.60) and Zach Campbell
(24:05.30). Four of the Panthers top five finishers were all
competing in their first collegiate event, with the exception of
Flores.
On the women's side, senior Kirsten Moore finished in 39th with a time of 20:59.10. Kelsey Gasner of Biola won the event in a time of 16:31.80.
