Four runners record season-best times at Biola Invitational

ORANGE, Calif. – After a two week layoff, the Chapman University cross country team returned to action on Saturday in the Biola Invitational at Irvine Regional Park, with four runners recording season-best times.

For the fifth time in six races, freshman Spencer Berry paced the men's team, finishing in 39th place with a time of 27:37.5 in the 8k. While it was not his top time of the season, it was his best time since the U.C. Riverside Invitational in September. Sophomore Kevin Tatlock, freshman Alex Fichera and junior David Andre were the three runners on the men's side with season bests, finishing with times of 31:41.5, 32:44.4 and 32:53.5, respectively.

Although the men saw some improvement, they finished in last place with an average time of 30:06.86. The Master's College had the race's top two finishers and three runners in the top 10 to capture the overall win.

For the women, freshman Nicole Jourdain had a season-best time of 22:23.6 but finished in 62nd place, just over four minutes off the pace set by The Master's Holly Kopp. Sophomore Paulette Garcia finished nine places behind Jourdain with a time of 22:55.4.

Chapman now has another long layoff – three weeks – before several of the runners return to action for the NCAA Division III Regionals on Nov. 12 in Claremont.
