Reid cracks top-30 at SCIAC Championships

CHINO, Calif. – Freshman runner Chris Reid earned a personal record and placed 29th overall for Chapman University in the SCIAC Cross Country Championships at Prado Park on Saturday morning. The rookie was the Panthers' top finisher out of 134 runners in the men's race with a time of 27:30.3 in the 8K.

Despite Reid's career-best time, the Chapman men placed ninth overall out of the nine schools in the SCIAC. Another freshman Michael Chan finished next behind Reid and improved on his personal record with a finish of 30:34.6 good for 105th place overall.

Head coach Anna Wlodarczyk was particularly pleased with Chapman's group effort in the women's race, where the Panthers again finished in ninth place out of nine schools, but had more finishers near the middle of the pack. Chapman was led by freshman Emily Ralston who placed 64th out of 116 participants with a time of 26:56.2 in just her second 6K of the year. Ralston missed the SCIAC Multi-Dual event earlier this month.

Right behind her was sophomore Charlie Truax who placed 69th with a time of 27:12.3.

Chapman will determine this week who will be its representatives for the NCAA Division III West Regionals in Salem, Ore. next month. The Panthers will have two weeks to rest up before the event which will be hosted by Willamette University (Ore.) on Nov. 10.
