Reid, Wanous pace Panthers in SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet

ORANGE, Calif. – With the SCIAC Championships looming, the Chapman University cross country team put their best foot forward on Saturday at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet in La Mirada. Freshman Sara Wanous led the women's team to a seventh place finish, outscoring La Verne and Caltech while sophomore Chris Reid paced the men's team for the fourth straight meet this season.

Wanous delivered another record-breaking performance on Saturday, this time besting her own school record by 40 seconds on a challenging 6k course, finishing in 22:56.2. The freshman has set a school record in each of her first three collegiate races and will look for her first top 10 finish at the SCIAC Championships on Nov. 2.

Freshman Cathryne Ramirez followed Wanous, finishing second on the squad and 47th overall with a time of 24:43.7. Ramirez was followed closely by a trio of runners that finished within one minute of each other as freshman Morgan Frobe (26:11.7), sophomore Courtney Pascual (26:22.3) and Jessica Selby (27:10.1) rounded out the top five for Chapman.

Among the top five Chapman finishers, Frobe saw the most dramatic improvement, shaving 45 seconds off her previous 6k time set on Oct. 5 at Pomona-Pitzer.

In the men's 8k race, Reid paced the Panthers with a 14th place finish in 26:51.29, coming in less than a second behind his season-best mark set in his last race, Oct. 5 at Pomona-Pitzer. Freshman Charles Thimesch had his best performance of the season, recording the Panthers' second-best time with a mark of 28:30.9. Sophomore Hugo Flores rounded out Chapman's top three, finishing with a time of 31:01.7.

Saturday's multi-dual meet marked the conclusion of the regular season. The Panthers will travel to Chino, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the SCIAC Championship races beginning at 9 a.m.
