Panthers open strong at UCR Invitational
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams lined up for the starting gun on the Agricultural Operations Course the 35th Annual UC Riverside Invitational. Both teams had a promising opening meet with both teams finishing ninth overall.
Senior Chris Reid paced the men's team finishing 13th overall in the 8K with a 26:13.6 time. Last season, he ran a 26:32 on the same course improving his time by 16 seconds. Freshman Henry Butler debuted with a time of 28:38.5 finishing 41st.
The women's team finished ninth overall in the 5K with two Panthers breaking the 20-minute mark. Freshman Nika Cokas paced the Panthers finishing 31st with a time of 19:07.2 followed closely by junior Michiko Yee who crossed the line 48th with a time of 19:37.4.
In their Panther debut freshmen Sheridan Scifres and Olivia Palenscar finished in the top 75. Scifres finished 58th with a time of 20:07.7 while Palenscar debuted at 65th with a time of 20:32.2.
Rounding out the top five for Chapman was junior Cathryne Ramirez who finished 71st with a time of 20:47.1.
The Panthers will take a two week break before returning to the course for the Pomona Pitzer Invite on Saturday, Oct. 3.
