Orr and Wasserman earn West Region honors

SALEM, Ore. – After a two week break, the Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Salem, Ore. to compete at the rainy and muddy NCAA Division III West Regionals hosted by Willamette University. The men landed two rookies on the NCAA All-West Region team while the women had their strongest pack outing finishing within seconds of each other after competing in less than optimal conditions.

Capitalizing on an impressive freshman year, freshmen Elijah Orr and Ben Wasserman earned NCAA All-West Region team honors for the first time in their career by finishing in the top-35. Orr finished 29th with a final time of 27:09, averaging an impressive mile time of 5:26.1. Wasserman, who finished less than 20 second behind Orr, finished 35th with a final time of 27:25.7.

Freshman Chris Pai finished 58th with a final time of 28:06 and freshman Drake Butler earned a final time of 28:50.2 to round out the Panthers, finishing 94th. Chapman as a team maintained an average mile time of under six minutes.

On the women's side the Panthers finished with an unbelievable .48 second gap between the 1-4 runners. In her first NCAA appearance, freshman Avery Cardosi led the Panthers with a final time of 24:48.0 to earn 59th.

Seniors Cathryne Ramirez, Michiko Yee and Jessica Selby all ended their Chapman careers on high notes, finishing in the top-100. Ramirez finished with a final time of 24:57.2 to grab the 67th spot, followed by Yee who earned a final mark of 24:59.0 at 70th. Rounding out the Panther qualifiers was Selby who crossed the line with a final time of 25:36.3 to earn 83rd.

The NCAA Division III West Regionals marks the season close for the Chapman University men's and women's cross country teams.
