Program-best finishes, All-SCIAC honors for Mirro at SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Both the men's and women's cross country teams saw their best finishes in program history at the SCIAC Championships on Saturday. The women's team took fifth and the men's team took sixth.

The women's team had placed sixth in each of the last championships but climbed into the middle tier of the conference with another program-best of 129 points. Junior Maddie Mirro turned in yet another personal-best time to pace the Panthers and earn an All-SCIAC Second Team finish. Her 22:48.6 placed her 16th overall, is the second-fastest time in school history and is just the third women's runner to earn All-SCIAC honors.

Behind Mirro, sophomore Annika Carlson took 23rd with a 23:23.5, which was just two-tenths of a second off her personal-best. Freshman Tasha Kotz wasn't far behind at 24:03.3 in 33rd overall. Sophomore Kayla Almeida's 24:23.2 was a personal-best in her second attempt at a 6k race and placed her 45th. Sophomore Grace Coleman rounded out the team scoring in 52nd with a 24:32.5.

As a team, the Panthers set another school record for the fastest average time. Their average of 23:50 is the best in Chapman history to appropriately go along with their program-best finish.

The men's team took sixth with a program-low total of 173 points at the SCIAC Cross Country Championships. Junior Anthony Hart led the Panthers with a 26:29.0 to take 40th overall. Sophomore Zach Leith was next to finish for the Panthers in 48th with a 26:43.2. Freshman Landon Davies took 64th with a 27:12.4 and junior Aiden White finished 77th with a 27:45.9. Junior David Anderson rounded out the team scoring in 83rd with a 27:54.4.

The Panthers averaged a 27:12 8k time for the top-5 finishers.

Both teams will head back to the Pomona College course in Claremont, Calif. on Nov. 13 for the NCAA DIII West Regionals.
