Relay team captures first place finish against Biola

ORANGE, Calif. - Chapman University's women's relay team placed first in the 200-yard medley and second in the 200-yard freestyle events against visiting Biola University at the Allred Aquatics Center on Saturday. Despite that, the Panthers lost the women's swimming and diving competition by a score of 125-114 in their first home dual meet of the season.

In the first race of the meet, Chapman's Julia Fish, Nathalie Klein, Alex Chan and Samantha McLaughlin captured the win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.29. Then in the day's final race it was freestyle sprinters Gabrielle Benavidez, Kellie Stump, Kayla Heath and Adrienne Lebsack who claimed second place for the Panthers in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.50.

Chapman sophomore Alex Chan also earned the Panthers' only other first place finish in the competition with a time of 2:17.45 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Panthers' freshman Amanda Morris also had a solid showing in the 50-yard freestyle where she finished in third place with a time of 26.69. And in the 200-yard backstroke it was Fish who earned second place with a time of 2:18.62.

The morning began with freshman diver Chelsey Hanle capturing first place in both the women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Hanle earned scores of 201.85 in the 1-meter and 179.55 in the 3-meter for the first two wins of her college career.
