PCSC Championships get underway for women's swimming

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The four-day 2012 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships begin on Wednesday at the La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center for the Chapman University women's swim team, and several swimmers have their sights on school records. Last year alone, four school records fell at the PCSC Championships at Belmont Plaza and over the years, 15 of the 20 school records tracked have come in the final meet of the season.

The meet begins for Chapman with a pair of team events on Wednesday that include the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay. 

On Thursday, sophomore Julie Case will attempt to thwart her school record in the 500-yard freestyle which she set at the PCSC Championships last season with a time of 5:07.91. Shortly after Case hits the pool for the 500, the 200-yard freestyle relay team has its shot at the team record which was set in 2009.

Sophomore Alex Carubis gets her chance on Friday at breaking her school record in the 400-yard individual medley which she set earlier this season at the UNLV Invite.  Later in the day, Case is scheduled to compete in the 200-yard freestyle as she goes after an eight-year old school record time of 1:56.35 set by Kati Wise.  Junior Samantha McLaughlin then follows in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries followed by the 400-yard medley relay team as both look to move on to the finals later in the evening.

The championship preliminaries conclude on Saturday with Carubis and McLaughlin competing in the 200-yard backstroke and breaststroke, respectively. Then the 400-yard freestyle team has its final preliminary followed by Case competing in the 1650 heats.
