Broughton sets school record in dual with Biola

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Connor Broughton broke the school record in the 400 IM to highlight both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams dual meet against Biola. In his first year on the Panthers swim team, Broughton broke the school record by over one second.

The women's team took the team win over Biola by a score of 124-107. Broughton's performance was the bright spot on the men's side as Biola took the team win 133-77.

Broughton's time of 4:18.29 in the 400 IM was not only a school record, but also the winning time in the event by a comfortable seven seconds. He also dominated the 500 free, taking first with a time of 4:58.83. He finished 20 seconds faster than his closest competitor.

On the men's side, sophomore Mark Dominguez also came away with an event win. Dominguez took the 50 free with a time of 22.94.

The women's team won a total of five events with five different Panthers notching an event win. Sophomore Mary Welton brought in Chapman's first win with a dominating swim in the mile. She finished with a time of 19:03.01 – more than 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Junior Martina Exlerova took first in the 50 free with a 25.15 while junior Claire Fieweger swam a 1:01.27 to win the 100 fly. Freshman Kristina Fong made it another freestyle win for the Panthers with a 55.38. Freshman Katie Blasing brought in Chapman's final event win with a 1:04.42 in the 100 back.

The diving events finished up the meet on Monday with freshman Kellyn Toole once again led Chapman's diving efforts on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. She compiled scores of 223.55 on the 1-meter and 186.10 on the 3-meter.

The swimming & diving teams are back in action on Jan. 9 when the Panthers host Pomona-Pitzer at 11 a.m.
