Toole hits NCAA qualifying mark at CMS dual meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Sophomore Kellyn Toole swept the podium at the SCIAC dual meet with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday to qualify for NCAA Regionals. Toole's qualifying mark makes her the first diver in program history to qualify for NCAA Regionals twice.

The women's team fell 208-89 despite big numbers posted from Toole. The sophomore scored season bests on both the 1-meter and 3-meter, scoring 295.70 and 298.60 respectively.

Building off Toole's success, junior Mary Welton swam past the Athena's into first place in the 1000 free with a final time of 11:31.00. Rookie Teresa Gerhold finished just eight seconds behind her with a final time of 11:39.53 to help the Panthers go one-two in the event.

Freshman Sara Quach paced all swimmers in the 50-free with a final time of 25.43 and sophomore Kristina Fong placed third in the 100 back with a season-best performance of 1:01.70.

Despite falling 228-46 to the Stags on the men's side, the youthful Panthers found the podium twice.

Sophomore Connor Broughton finished first with a final time of 10:22.03 in the 1000 free, defeating his closest competitor by a full five seconds.

Freshman Chase Mitchell finished third in the 200 butterfly at 2:02.14, just three seconds off his career-best. In addition, Mitchell finished top-4 in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:49.43.

The Panthers return to the pool on Jan. 14 for a double-dual meet with Mills College and La Verne at La Verne. Chapman will return home for its final SCIAC dual against Occidental on Jan. 28. The Senior Day meet will begin at Allred Pool at 10:30 a.m.
