Tigers spoil Chapman senior day

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams competed with Occidental College at the Allred Pool on Senior Day Saturday. The women's team fell 152-126 and the men fell to the Tigers 171-83.


Chase Mitchell recorded a career-best time of 17:10.30, shaving three seconds of his personal best to earn first in the 1650 free. Mitchell also finished second in the 100 fly with a final time of 54.79.


Freshman Quinn Riedel finished second in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:53.49. Reidel also swam into second in the 200 back, shaving six seconds off of his season best after touching the wall at 2:10.25.


Pacing the Panthers in the 500 free, sophomore Connor Broughton swam into first with a final time of 4:53.86. Broughton also finished third in the 100 breast with a season best time of 1:02.42.


On the women's side, junior Mary Welton led the Panthers in the 1650 free for the second week in a row, finishing with a season-best time of 18:39.42 to take first.

 

Freshman Sara Quach outswam the competition in both backstroke events. Quach broke the minute markl with a final time of 59.35 in the 100 and earned a time of 2:09.64 in the 200 to capture first in both heats.


Sweeping the board competition, diver sophomore Kellyn Toole walked away with another pair of wins. Toole scored 241.00 on the 3-meter and 221.50 on the 1-meter. Freshman Rebecca DeAngelis finished second on the 1-meter to add four points for Chapman after being awarded a score of 167.00.


Chapman will travel to Redlands on Saturday, February 4 for a double dual meet with Cal Lutheran and Redlands at 10 a.m. The Panthers will use that last meet to prepare for SCIAC Championships which will begin on Wednesday, February 15.
