Toole,Reeves get wins in SCIAC meet

LA VERNE, Calif. – Senior Kellyn Toole put up season-high scores on the diving board to lead the Chapman University swimming & diving teams in a double dual against Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne. Both Panther squads fell to Pomona-Pitzer but defeated La Verne.

Toole won both diving events with a 262.30 on the 1-meter board and a 257.20 on the 3-meter board. Sophomore Jailey Reeves also won an event for the Panthers, touching the wall first in the 200 breast. She finished with a time of 2:29.98 – the 12th fastest in the SCIAC this year. Reeves also took third in the 100 breast.

Senior Kristina Fong finished second in a pair of events to help lead the Panthers. She finished with a time of 1:02.49 in the 100 back and a 25.82 in the 50 free. Junior Molly Davis took second in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.08. Chapman had a second-place finisher in the long distance events as well with junior Teresa Gerhold's 5:30.72 in the 500 free and junior Katherine Buliga's 11:26.99 in the 1000 free.

The men's 400 free relay took turned in a season-best time of 3:18.23 to take second in the event. Freshman Darren Wong missed out on an event win less than three-tenths of a second in the 100 fly. His time of 53.51 took second in the event. Freshman Omar Insignares took second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.45 and freshman Michael Kulinich sprinted to a time of 22.37 in the 50 free for another second-place finish.

The Panthers are back at Allred Pool on Saturday at 11 a.m. for a dual meet with Biola. The non-conference dual will be the final home meet of the 2019 season as Chapman swims two more conference duals on the road at Whittier and Occidental before the SCIAC Championships February 21-24.
