Kluck highlights day one with record-breaking 50 free

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Meghan Kluck set the school record for the 50 free to highlight the first day at the Winter Invite at East LA College.

Kluck became the first Chapman swimmer to break 24 seconds in the sprint event, finishing her preliminary heat in 23.95 seconds – the third-fastest time of the morning. She placed ninth in the final. Ryanne Doherty took 19th in the 50 free with Avery Hall taking 23rd.

Cole Kershner came close to a school record and took fifth in the 50 free with a 21.47 in the top final. Simon Jacobs took third in the B Final with a 21.90 to finish in 11th overall.

Zach Waddell had another solid swim for the men's team, taking fourth in the 500 free with a 4:39.07 in the top final. Brandon Leung won the C Final of the 200 IM to take 17th overall with a finals time of 1:59.07. Teammate William Crewe finished right behind Leung in the 200 IM at 1:59.17.

Bianca Bayer also earned the victory in the women's C Final of the 200 IM, turning in a time of 2:10.78.

Both teams competed in the 200 free and 400 medley relay with the men's 200 free relay getting Chapman's top finish in the relay events. The Panthers placed fifth with a 1:26.44.

The Winter Invite continues tomorrow at ELAC with preliminary heats beginning at 10 a.m.
