Swim & dive dominates first SCIAC dual of 2022

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams returned for the first meet of 2022 in a SCIAC dual against short-handed La Verne. The Panthers dominated the dual meet, winning 25 of the 28 events. The women's team posted a 219-35 team win while the men's team won 150-41.

Junior Riley Brownfield swept the sprint freestyle events for the Panthers, swimming a season-best 26.36 in the 50 free and a 56.89 in the 100 free. Freshman Bianca Bayer recorded a personal-best of 1:03.10 to win the 100 fly and also took first in the 200 fly.

Senior Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson swept the two backstroke events while her sister Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson added a win in the 200 breast. Sophomore McKenzie Abbott swept the two diving events with a season-best 261 in the 1-meter and a 270.15 on the 3-meter.

Freshmen Simon Jacobs led the men's team with a pair of victories. He took the 50 free with a 22.75 and edged out teammate Zach Waddell in the 200 breast with a personal-best of 2:21.00. Waddell also took first in the 100 back with a personal-best time of 57.64.

Seven different Panthers from the men's team won at least one individual event while nine Panthers from the women's team pulled in an event win.

Chapman returns to Allred Pool on Saturday to take on Cal Lutheran at 11 a.m.
