Swim & Dive teams split dual with Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming and diving teams split a SCIAC dual meet with Cal Lutheran on Saturday at Allred Pool. The women's team won 198-93 and the men's team fell 180-84. The women's team won eight of 14 swimming events.

Freshman Avery Hall swept the sprint freestyle events to lead the Panthers in the team win. Hall also anchored the winning 200 medley relay team for three wins on the day. Hall led a 1-2-3-4 Chapman finish in the 50 free with a 25.01. In the 100 free, she swam a 54.83 to claim the top spot.

The Chapman women also swept the two relays, finishing the 200 medley relay with a 1:50.94 and the 200 free relay with a 1:41.66.

The men's team were led by an event win from freshman Bryce Grover in the 200 back. Grover touched the wall at 1:59.41 to take the only individual swimming win of the day for the Panthers. He took second place in the 100 back as well. Junior Michael Jung also had a pair of solid swims, taking second in the 100 free and 100 fly.

Sophomore Marah Kane claimed the top spot in the 100 back with a 1:01.15 and freshman Megan Kluck swam a 1:10.48 in the 100 breast to take first place as well. Chapman Athlete of the Week Riley Brownfield won the 500 free with a 5:26.20.

Freshman Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson swam the 100 fly for the fifth time this season and took first in the event with a 59.95. Junior Ella McShane's win in the 200 IM gave Chapman its last individual win of the day as she finished in 2:18.75.

Sophomore McKenzie Abbott also swept the diving events for the second week in a row, competing against only her teammates this week. Freshman Joseph LaFontaine made his debut on the diving board, scoring a 186.50.
