Divers complete day one of SCIAC Diving Championships

ORANGE, Calif. – Three divers represented Chapman University at the SCIAC Diving Championships with Mckenzie Abbott and Joseph LaFontaine each qualifying for finals.

After taking on the task of learning to dive just earlier this season, LaFontaine earned a spot in the finals on the 1-meter board and eventually took ninth to score a point for the Panthers in the SCIAC Championships. LaFontaine recorded a 255.15 to earn his spot in the finals. Hi final score was a 231.6 to take ninth place in the men's competition.

Abbott placed seventh on the 3-meter board for Chapman. Her 11 dives totaled 323.10 in the finals to secure her spot in seventh place. Teammate Mina Cannon placed tenth in the preliminary round, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals.

The men and women switch boards tomorrow for the second day of the SCIAC Diving Championships.
