Podium finish, school record at second day of SCIAC Championships

LA MIRADA, Calif. – A women's relay made the podium and a men's school record fell to highlight day two of the SCIAC Championships in La Mirada, Calif. The women's team remains in third place and the men's team in eighth after the second day.

The women's 200 free relay became the first Chapman appearance on the podium when the Panthers took third to end the night in 200 free relay. The Panther team of Ryanne Doherty, Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson, Avery Hall and Meghan Kluck combined for a 1:37.35 to reach to podium by just .13 seconds.

Zach Waddell broke his own school record in 500 free when he recorded a 4:37.71 in his preliminary heat. He qualified for the consolation final and took 13th in the event with a 4:38.81 in the finals. Connor Jordan joined Waddell in the consolation final and took 18th.

Riley Brownfield led a trio of Panthers in the women's 500 free consolation final, taking 11th with a 5:15.72. Sophia Kelsey finished 14th and Sydney Kirchoff took 18th.  

In the 200 IM, William Crewe led the men's team with an 11th-place finish. Bianca Bayer led the women's team as she took 14th in the 200 IM and Hannah Parulan finished 17th.

On the men's side, Cole Kershner finished off the individual events with a 15th-place finish in the 50 free. The men's 200 free relay took sixth for the Panthers with a 1:25.30.

The championship meet resumes tomorrow with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. and finals begin at 5 p.m.
