Women top Sagehens, take first, men finish second in first SCIAC meet

ORANGE, Calif — Swimming and Diving saw great success in its first SCIAC meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5 against Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier.

The women took first place overall, defeating the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens who were ranked first in the Women's Swimming SCIAC Preseason Poll. Sophia Ryu took home three first-place finishes, winning both breaststrokes and helping the medley relay team finish first.

Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson was another impressive first-place winner for the Panthers, taking the top spot in the women's 100 fly. She also placed third individually in the 200 fly and was another force of the medley squad.

The other relay squad, the women's 200 freestyle relay, took home a first place finish as well. Avery Hall, a member of that squad finished first in the women's 50 free, and 100 free as well.

On the men's side, Simon Jacobs and Jason Kim had great days of racing helping the men take second place on the afternoon. Kim finished first in the 200 free and Jacobs took home the top time in the men's 100 breaststroke. Both of them also helped the medley and freestyle relay teams to second place finishes.

Last, but certainly not least, the divers. This bunch put on a spectacular show in the pool, earning first and second place in both the men's and women's categories. The women's divers all finished above the Pomona-Pitzer divers.

Sydney Rabuchin won both the one and three meter dive for the women. Reid Omilian and Jake Randazzo split the victories for the men. Randazzo won the three meter and Omilian the one meter.

Swimming and Diving is back in action next Saturday, Nov. 12, when they travel to Claremont to take on the Athenas of CMS and Caltech in a dual meet.
