Swimming & diving continues SCIAC double duals against CMS, Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swim & dive teams continued its early season SCIAC double dual schedule as it took on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Caltech in Claremont, Calif. The Panthers continued to see positive early season swims under new head coach Juliet Seuss.

Avery Hall took third overall in both the 100 and 200 free events, twice finishing behind two swimmers from CMS but ahead of any opponents from Caltech. Ella McShane swam the 400 IM under five minutes, hitting the wall at 4:58.76 for an impressive early season swim.

Another solid performance came from Meghan Kluck and Sophia Ryu in the 100 breast. The Panther duo finished 2-3 overall in the event – ahead of Caltech swimmers and just behind one swimmer from CMS.

The women's 200 free relay posted the 10th fastest time in school history with a 1:40.09 to take second of nine relay teams from the three squads.

With the solid performance the women's team defeated Caltech 204-93 but fell to CMS. The men's team dropped both duals.

Willis Boyd and Jason Kim led the men's team in the double dual. Boyd dropped 23 seconds off his 1000 free time from a week ago, finishing with a 10:42.70 – the tenth fastest time in Chapman history. Kim posted a personal-best in the 200 fly, hitting the wall 1:58.41 for the seventh-fastest time in Chapman's all-time list.

Reid Omillian led the divers with a first place overall finish on the 1-meter board. He posted a score of 337.60 to top two of his teammates and four CMS divers. He also took third on the 3-meter board.

Mina Cannon defeated all her Caltech competitors on the 3-meter board to lead the women's diving team with a 224.05.

The Panthers will take a break from SCIAC duals until the new year but return to Allred Pool for a two-day meet against Concordia University Irvine on Dec. 2-3.
