Track and field opens with mixed results

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University men's and women's track and field team opened its 2015 season at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet on Saturday, Feb. 21 with mixed results.   

The men's team track team opened its season strong in the 4x100-meter relay finishing third overall with a mark of 44.11. The team consisted of sophomores Mark Celentano and Mitchell Bouldin, junior Nelson Gould, and senior Rhett Ramirez.

Ramirez also finished third in two additional heats, including the 100-meter dash (11.60) and the 200-meter dash (23.13).

Bouldin finished fourth overall in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.72, just .08 meters behind third-place competitor Matt Dispenza.

The women's relay team placed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 50.48. The team consisted of sophomores Fiona Chu and Alex Bliss, freshman Nicole Greenberg, and junior Mabe Meza.

Meza recorded a personal-best of 4.77 meters in the women's long jump breaking her previous record by .18 meters.

Greenberg and Chu finished third and fourth respectively in their heat for the 100-meter dash. While, Chu also set a personal-best with a time of 26.30 in the 200-meter dash.

Representing Chapman in long distance was sophomore Cathryne Ramirez who competed in the 1000-meter dash for the first time in her career and placed third in her heat with a mark of 3:11.15.

The Panthers will make their first conference competition at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 on March 7 at La Verne, Calif. Chapman will then travel to Oxy Distance Carnival / Sprint Fest on Friday March 13 at 2:30 p.m.
