Pair of distance relay records fall at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track team broke a pair of distance relay school records at the Rossi Relays on Saturday at the Burns Track & Field Complex, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Panthers set new marks in the 4x800 relay and the distance medley, highlighting a day also with many personal records for Chapman.

The Panthers' 4x800 relay broke the school record set last February by over 17 seconds, finishing with a time of 10:22.15. The team consisted of sophomore Cathryne Ramirez, freshman Erika Mejia, junior Fiona Chu and sophomore Michiko Yee and placed seventh overall in the event.

Sophomore Sara Wanous (1200 meters) then teamed up with Chu (400 meters), Yee (800 meters) and Ramirez (1600 meters) to help the Panthers break the distance medley, crossing the finish line at 13:20.81 – besting the old mark by nearly 14 seconds. Wanous also set a new PR in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:52.36.

Freshman Gina Pasquinelli set a new personal best and placed sixth overall in the women's long jump with a leap measuring 4.85 meters. She finished 11th overall in the high jump with another PR at 1.42 meters. Chapman's sprinters also had a solid meet as freshman Nicole Greenberg finished 14th (out of 56 sprinters) in the 100 meters with a time of 13.16. Right behind her was sophomore Alex Bliss who set a new PR with a mark of 13.29 in the event.

For the men, sophomore sprinter Johnny Michalik was the top runner in the 100 meters with a finish of 11.45, while two teammates set PRs in the event. Junior Chris Reid set a personal best in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:18.44. And freshman Griffin Saunders won his heat and placed fourth overall in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.10.
