Track & field returns to the track at SCIAC Multi-Dual

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams were back on the track for their first meet of 2021 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual in Redlands, Calif. Sophomore Maddie Mirro won two events to lead the Panthers.

The Panthers took on athletes from Redlands and Cal Lutheran in the first of two SCIAC meets this season. Mirro picked up right where she left off, winning the 800m and 1500m events. She ran a 2:20.48 to win the 400m by five second. She won the 1500m by 20 seconds, crossing the finish line at 4:47.30. Sophomore Katie Hansen finished right behind Mirro in second place in the 1500m run. She finished with a time of 5:07.58.

Senior Gabi Siguenza also took first place for Chapman, taking the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:09.34 was over one second better than the next finisher. Junior Maija Girardi was the third Panther to win an event with a javelin throw of 33.07 meters (108-feet, 6-inches).

Freshman Chris Dyckman made it a Chapman sweep of the javelin with a winning throw of 49.26 meters (161-feet, 7-inches). He won the event by over 15 meters.

Sophomore Anthony Hart was the only event champion from the men's team on the track, taking first in the steeplechase by a 14 second margin. Freshman Jordan Walton led Chapman in the 400 meter with Panthers finishing 2-3-4 in the event. Walton ran a 52.36.

Junior Davis Carmichael also took second in the 1500m run, clocking in at 4:23.75. Sophomore Michael Cumby had a couple of third-place finishes in both hurdle events. He ran a 16.45 in the 110m hurdles and a 1:02.76 in the 400m hurdles.

Chapman's 4x100m relay team also took first place with a time of 44.40.

The Panthers head to Moorpark College for their next meet on Friday.
