Track & field wraps up season Redlands Final Qualifier

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams concluded their seasons at the Redlands Final Qualifier. Sophomore Maddie Mirro improved on her school records to close out the 2021 season.

Mirro ran a personal-best 2:16.47 to win the 800 meter run, beating her previous best by nearly four seconds. She also dropped some time off of her 1500m run school record. She ran a 4:38.04 to take second in the event. Mirro ranks 30th in Division III in the 1500m and is just outside the top-50 in the nation in the 800m.

Junior Maija Girardi took first in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.04 meters (111-feet, 8-inches) for the only other event win of the day.

Senior Derek Tyler made a bit of Chapman history as he became the first Panther to compete in the decathlon since the program's revival in 2015. He took second in the event, recording 4731 points.

Senior Gabi Siguenza took third in the 400m hurdles with a 1:09.62. Freshman Jesse McMillan set a personal-best and Division III best for Chapman when he cleared 3.98 meters (13-feet, 0.75-inches) on the pole vault.

The Panthers' 2021 season comes to a close after the last chance meet.
