Track & Field to compete in SCIAC Championship

ORANGE, Calif — The Track & Field team will begin the SCIAC Championship this weekend hosted by Whittier College. The Panthers look to bring a competitive edge with this year's team breaking a multitude of school records throughout the season.

Most recently, Zoe Zurasky broke the all-time women's 100 meter dash record at 12.53. On the same day, Zurasky alongside Kaylee Smith, Allie Kremer, and Khyra Stiner topped the school record in the 4x100 relay, which they had previously broken this season. The team ran a 49.33.

Heading into the Championship, Zurasky is sixth best in the SCIAC when it comes to the 100 meter, and ninth in the 200 meter. The relay team is fourth in the SCIAC.

Donovan Wilson leads the way for the men's sprinters. He's ranked in the top ten in the 100 and 400. He's seventh in the shortest distance and ninth in the 400.

Rounding out the sprints for the women, Kremer is fifth in the SCIAC in the 400 and Kayla Almeida fourth in conference and 44th in the nation in the 800. When it comes to longer distances Maddie Mirro leads that category, she's ranked eighth and ninth in the women's 800 and 1500 respectively.

On the men's side of distance, Anthony Hart is sixth in the conference and 35th in the nation in the steeplechase, with his near school-record breaking time of 9:26.10.

Speaking of records, the Panthers have a whole lot of those. Jesse McMillan broke the school pole vault record multiple times this year, putting him at a top height of 4.90 meters. That height is good enough for the second best in the SCIAC and sixth in the nation. McMillan is also seventh in the SCIAC in the high jump.

On the women's side, Adva Shilon is no slouch in the jumps either. She's second in the SCIAC in the high jump and eighth in the pole vault.

Finishing out the jumps, fourth Panthers come into the Championship in the top-10 in either long or triple jump. Matthew Becker is eighth in the long jump, while Alec Desuasido is fifth in the triple jump. Zurasky and Ella Kodjababian are ninth and tenth respectively in the triple jump.

Khyra Stiner is the Panther's greatest force to be reckoned with in the hurdles. She is eighth in the 100 and fifth in the 400, just behind Katarina Maric in fourth. For the men, Michael Crumby is the fourth best 110 meter hurdler in the SCIAC.

Last, but certainly not least, are the throws. Sean Longley is ranked sixth, seventh and eighth in the hammer throw, discus and shot put in that order. Four Panther men are in the top-10 in the javelin, including Christopher Dyckman in third, Davis Endow in seventh, Cole McFarlane in eighth, and Sam Thompson in ninth. As for the women, Maija Girardi is third in the javelin.

Chapman begins the SCIAC Championship on Saturday, Apr. 30, and it concludes the following day on Sunday.
