Belanger breaks 21-year old school record in 400m

IRVINE, Calif. - Wendy Belanger accomplished what she set out to do on Sunday in Chapman's final track meet of the season. The sophomore did not let a sore throat get in the way of breaking a 21-year old school record in the 400-meters and ran it in 1:01.26 at the U.C. Irvine/Steve Scott Invitational on Sunday.

Belanger, who was feeling a little under the weather on Sunday, placed third in her heat and shaved 12 hundredths of a second off the previous Chapman record  of 1:01.38 set by Deidre Lowe in 1988. That happened a year before the Panthers' new record-holder was even born.

It was a great day overall for the Panthers, who recorded five other personal bests in various events, including Brooke Brisbois in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior ran a 1:25.65 in the final race of her career.

Senior Jackie Devot was also Chapman's top finisher in the 800-meters with a time of 2:34.65 - her second best mark in the event in her career.
