Swimming and Diving teams to compete in SCIAC Championships this weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will cap off their seasons at the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships which begin Thursday and finish on Sunday at the Brenda Villa Aquatics Center in Commerce, Calif.

Headlining the women's team is Julie Case, who took home Chapman's sole individual SCIAC Championship a season ago. The senior posted a season-best time of 18:37.37 in the 1650 free, the 11th best mark posted in the conference this season and figures to contend for another conference title over the weekend.

The Panthers' women's short-distance leader is Kirsten Spicer, who placed amongst the conference leaders with season-best times of 25.51 seconds in the 50 free and 55.92 seconds in the 100 free.

Chapman's chances of taking home a top spot are not limited to individual events as the 400 free relay team of Spicer, Case, Emily Holmquist and Riley Ford posted an impressive 3:48.11 mark during the season and are expected to compete with conference rivals.

On the men's side, newcomer Taylor Ford figures to post a strong showing against his SCIAC foes after recording a season-best time of 22.52 seconds in the 50 free, ranking amongst the top swimmers in the conference.

Senior Bobby Hermann has made a big impact in conference diving competitions since joining the team this season. The transfer-student has two first-place finishes on his record this year to go along with season best marks of 234.4 in the 1-meter competition and 221.45 in the 3-meter competition.

The championships are scheduled to begin with preliminary competition on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. For a complete schedule of events, please see the link below.
