College baseball writers name Rauh Pitcher of the Year

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named Chapman University freshman pitcher Brian Rauh its NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year for the 2010 season. Rauh, who picked up four-of-eight first-place votes, also earned ABCA and D3Baseball.com first-team All-America honors with an 11-0 record in his first collegiate season.

The Chapman University baseball team was once again one of the best teams in the West Region in 2010. So it comes as no surprise that a quartet of Panthers have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III All-West Region team. Headlining the group is freshman RHP Brian Rauh who was named West Region Pitcher of the Year.

The trio of Matt Luzar, Brian Rauh and James Parr earned top honors, while nine Chapman University baseball players were named to the 2010 All-Independent teams as announced Friday by the Association of Division III Independents. Of the Panthers nine All-Independent selections, seven were named to the first team.

The Panthers were defeated by the University of Texas-Tyler 5-4 in the second game of the NCAA Division III Baseball West Region playoffs at Roy Helser Field/Jim Wright Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Chapman Universitys senior centerfielder hit a two-out, two-run double to snap a 1-1 in the fourth inning providing the cushion the Panthers needed in a 4-3 victory over Trinity University (Texas) in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Baseball West Region playoffs at Roy Helser Field/Jim Wright Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
