Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.
Men's water polo back in top-10 in team GPA

The Chapman University men's water polo team continued its collective effort toward academic excellence securing another year on the grade-point average leaderboard. The Panthers placed 10th in the nation according to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) with a collective GPA of 3.08 during the 2013 season.
Alvarado, Carter earn ACWPC All-America honors

The accolades keep rolling in for senior utility Brett Carter and junior driver Mark Alvarado, who were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America Team in an announcement made Wednesday. The duo, who received All-SCIAC recognition in December, paced the Chapman University men’s water polo team by leading the team in goals (Carter, 47) and assists (Alvarado, 44) in the Panthers’ 9-12 season.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team had two players selected to the All-Conference team in an announcement made by the SCIAC office on Wednesday. Senior utility Brett Carter and junior driver Mark Alvarado were named to the All-SCIAC men’s water polo first and second teams, respectively.

The Cal Lutheran University men’s water polo team lead from start to finish, defeating host Chapman University 14-11 in the fifth-place match of the SCIAC Men’s Water Polo Championships at Allred Pool on Sunday afternoon. The Kingsmen avenged a regular season loss to the Panthers 13-6 at Chapman just last month.

The Panthers offensive outburst was a result of a varied attack that featured 11 different players scoring goals in the contest.

The Chapman University men’s water polo team saw their Division III national ranking surge to No. 3 on the eve of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, which the Panthers will host this weekend at the Allred Olympic Pool. Chapman jumped three spots in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) rankings after completing an 11-9 upset victory over then-ranked No. 2 Claremont-M-S on Saturday.

All nine SCIAC schools will descend on the Allred Aquatics Center on the campus of Chapman University to determine the conference’s best team at the 2013 SCIAC Men’s Water Polo Championship, beginning on Friday afternoon. Seven of the nine schools are ranked among the top-10 in Division III nationally and, for the first time in SCIAC history, the conference winner will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.

Hosting its second ranked Division I opponent in as many weeks, the Chapman University men’s water polo team fell to No. 11 Princeton University (N.J.) 13-10 at the Allred Pool on Friday morning. The Panthers had flirted with an upset throughout most of the contest, but three consecutive Princeton goals late in the fourth quarter sealed their fate.
