Women's basketball recognized for academic achievement

The Chapman University women’s basketball team was recognized for its academic success by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The Panthers earned Special Recognition on the annual WBCA Academic Honor Roll.

The SCIAC recognized 270 Chapman University student-athletes on its annual All-Academic list. Collectively, Panther student-athletes raised the bar for academic achievement as every team achieved a 3.2 team GPA or better.

Chapman Athletics and the Chapman Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the Second Annual Student-Athlete Awards with 21 team and individual awards handed out to honor on and off field achievements.

Senior Julia Strand earned her second career All-Region nod as she was selected to the D3hoop.com All-Region 10 Second Team. Strand earned First Team honors as a junior.

Senior Julia Strand earned a spot on the All-SCIAC First Team for women’s basketball, the conference announced on Thursday. Strand capped off a brilliant career with her second consecutive First Team selection.

Women's basketball finishes season with win over Whittier

The Chapman University women’s basketball team closed out the 2022-23 season with a 47-39 win over visiting Whittier on Saturday. Julia Strand put the finishing touches on a brilliant career with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

The Panthers jumped out to a commanding seven point lead early, after shooting 64% from the field in the opening frame. The 21-14 advantage was quickly hit with an 11-0 Leopard run to close out the quarter.

Women's basketball battles back down nine, falls to Redlands

January 25, 2023

The Panthers trailed 36-27 with 7:08 remaining in the third quarter after a 13-2 run that started at the end of the second quarter and carried into the beginning of the third. Chapman called a time out, regrouped, and went on a run of its own, cutting the deficit to four.

Strand captures another SCIAC weekly award

Senior Julia Strand was again recognized as the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, following the Panthers’ win over Caltech. Strand posted her eighth double-double of the season to lead the Panthers to the victory.

The Chapman University women’s basketball team picked up its second win in a row with a 72-61 victory over visiting Caltech on Saturday. Julia Strand recorded her eighth double-double of the year and three more players scored in double figures to key the win.

Julia Strand continues to dominate, scoring 31 on the night, marking the third game her last five scoring 31, and fourth time scoring 29 or more. She’s averaging 27.4 points per game in the stretch.

The Panthers led for nearly the entire contest, only trailing for a total of 1:40 combined throughout regulation, for 12 seconds in the second quarter and for another 1:28 span in the third.

Julia Strand scored 31 points to lift the Chapman University women’s basketball team to a 69-64 win over No. 6 Amherst. The loss was just the second of the season for Amherst with the Mammoths' only other loss coming in double overtime.

Not much worked for the Panthers as they shot 27% from the field. The size proved to be a huge advantage for the Eagles, forcing 10 blocked shots and out rebounding the Panthers 54-34.
